Last year we went to Gaya. We got the train from Chennai to Allahabad. Visited Ayodhya, Naimisaranyam, Varanasi and Gaya.
For Gaya Shrartham, there is not really anything specific for Sri Vaishavas. In fact, I am not sure if you will find an Iyengar vadhyar even. I am told that in Gaya, there is absolutely no difference of any kind; in fact there is no theetu also there - like you need not worry about being 'madi' after bath etc. The whole place is divine or eerie, depending on how you want to look at it.
In Gaya only Gaya Brahmins are the kings and they have to be 'satisfied' when we do Gaya Shrartham.
When we went we made use of one Raja (a Palghat Iyer - but he is aware of Iyengar customs) who took care of all our arrangements from Allahabad station and back to the same place. He can be (hopefully) reached at (0)99194 94000. A nice and reliable person.
Of course, there are several other people (mostly based in Varanasi) who take care of Gaya activities. Most of them are Iyers from Tamilnadu or Brahmins from Karnataka.
Do visit Gaya. See if you can go in a group. The feeling is difficult to explain.
With regards and best wishes
